Our Story:

A Better Tomorrow Counseling was founded in January 2023 by Shawndre Leydon and was originally located in Vero Beach, Florida.   Shawndre always wanted to fulfill a dream of establishing a private practice based on compassion, healing and dedication to the client.  Starting as a solo provider, she set out to commit to making a positive impact on people's lives through her work.

By April 2024, Shawndre began to realize that she wanted to expand A Better Tomorrow Counseling and become a group practice.  In order to achieve more space, in October 2024, A Better Tomorrow Counseling moved to Port St Lucie, Florida.  Incredibly, while still maintaining many clients from our previous Vero Beach location.  A true testament to the quality of care to see our clients travel upwards of an hour to stay with our services.

By June 2025, A Better Tomorrow Counseling had outgrown our original Port St Lucie location on Bayshore Blvd.  It was with great pride that Shawndre and her husband Shaun began to search for a long-term office that could accommodate a medium size group practice.  In September 2025, we proudly opened our newest location at 8505 US Hwy 1, Port St Lucie.  With enough space to accommodate five clinicians, reception, lobby and a Ketamine room.

Now, with multiple clinicians covering a span of treatment modalities, A Better Tomorrow Counseling is excited for the future possibilities.  A Better Tomorrow Counseling is proud to offer KAP (Ketamine Assisted Therapy), EMDR, Couples Trauma work (Gottman Certified), specializations with LGBTQ+, grief and trauma counseling as well as sexual disorder treatments (ATSA Certified).  Our practice is proud to offer telehealth to multiple states outside of Florida, including Maine, Massachusetts and New Jersey.

Employing a diverse range of therapeutic methods, including CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, and humanistic approaches, we have witnessed numerous clients undergo successful transformations and personal growth.  A Better Tomorrow Counseling is here to service all your therapeutic needs and continue to provide outstanding excellence in client services.

Shawndre M. Leydon, LMHC, LPC, QS

Greetings, I'm Shawndre M. Leydon, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, and proud alumnus of Bridgewater State University in Massachusetts, where I earned my master's degree. My journey in mental health has been rich with experiences, having served in various capacities, including roles with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, the Massachusetts Department of Corrections, and at numerous state hospitals, treatment centers, and county jails in Massachusetts and Florida.

My passion lies in helping individuals facing complex challenges. I specialize in working with diverse patient populations, from those dealing with sexually deviant behavior to individuals grappling with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and schizoaffective disorder, often characterized by impulsive and sexually preoccupied thoughts.

In 2018, I became a proud member of the Florida Association for the Treatment and Prevention of Sexual Abuse (FATSA), a testament to my commitment to the field of sexual abuse prevention and treatment.

My therapeutic approach is multifaceted, drawing from evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing. However, I'm also deeply committed to a humanistic approach that values the unique experiences and needs of each individual.

I have successfully worked with patients facing the most acute mental illnesses, and I'm dedicated to helping them find hope and healing. My passion extends to all age groups, and I work with adults, adolescents, and families. In fact, I can even attend Individualized Education Program (IEP) sessions to support families in the school setting when dealing with such diagnoses.

My mission is to make a positive impact on the lives of those I work with, and I'm here to walk beside you on your journey to well-being and recovery. Feel free to reach out if you believe I can be of assistance on your path to a better and brighter future.
